It’s been a busy few days but we have seen some amazing sights…. We did 140 kms in a tuk tuk one day to go to Beng Mealea otherwise known as the Jungle Temple…. It is one of the largest and most enchanting temples in Angkor and is located in the middle of the jungle. Basically it hasn’t been touched since it was found 100 years ago…..we were able to climb over the abandoned stones which lie there like forgotten jewels whilst the rest of the temple is covered in ivy and vines….
We then jumped back in our tuk tuk and headed to Tonle Sap which is the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia… We took a boat ride to see some floating villages and watched the sunset which was just beautiful…
The alarm was set for 4am the following day….bleary eyed we got back in the tuk tuk and made our way to the temples where we watched the sunrise over the legendary Angkor Wat…. It was pitch black and we were joined by other silly tourists and lots of mozzies…. Sweating before the sun came up just didn’t seem right!
We spent the day walking around all of the different temples in 36 degrees coupled with 100% humidity… My favourite part of the day was taking an elephant ride around one of the temples – meet our friend Sambo who is 45 years old!
I think we are both all templed out now for a while…. My foot has well and truly had a work out the last few days and my spackie shoe is now being binned in Cambodia! I have also had my first wee squatting in a hole which I was so excited about! We have both loved Cambodia and its definitely been my favourite place so far!
